Socratic Happy Hour: A Free Man's Worship

February 19, 2018, 7:30pm - February 19, 2018, 9:30pm

It's 2018 and we're back with our next opportunity to get together and critically examine a philosophical text. Here's what the future has in store: Join us over drinks and discussion of Bertrand Russell’s 1903 essay, “A Free Man’s Worship.” Sable will be leading us through the essay, socratic seminar style. Participants will join for an hour-long discussion where we address open-ended questions based on the text, listen to each others comments and respond thoughtfully, and walk away with a better understanding of the topic at hand as well as connecting more with those who attend. We will convene on Monday, February 19th at 7:30 PM to discuss our momentary presence in the epic cosmic drama unfolding all around us, and how to live as part of it. Brew and Brew has informed us that we’ll be sharing the room with a tarot card reader; we’ve selecting this reading with that knowledge in mind, which should make our discussion all the more interesting. Oh, and did we mention: Your first drink is on us! You can find the reading here: tinyurl.com/FreeMansWorship *This event is open to anyone interested in having conducive dialogue about the essay at hand and those that agree to come prepared to engage on the text. Please read the essay beforehand (we'll provide a PDF on the page and hard copies in person).
